City of Aarhus

Early on the City of Aarhus understood that mobile IT tools could contribute to the City’s ambition to provide an efficient and high quality care of the elderly. That is why the City in 2006 introduced a PDA based solution to the 1,900 homecare nurses. The solution enables the homecare nurses to access detailed information about the patients and allows the homecare nurses to add information directly to each patient’s record. This results in better service for the patients, less paper and far better possibilities of optimising the working procedures.

The solution comprises patient data requiring a high level of security and as the solution is in continuous service round the clock, the stability is crucial. Therefore the City of Aarhus chose to use Sybase Afaria as their mobile device management solution. Today the solution is supported and further developed by Mobility Architects.

“Afaria is fantastic. It does the job every single time” says Stefan Nicolaisen, IT consultant with the City of Aarhus. This solution has enabled Stefan to update the software on all PDAs through the data communications network within 12 hours. Without Afaria this process would have taken several weeks and would have required that each device be handed in to the City’s IT department.

The City of Aarhus is the second largest in Denmark and has more than 300,000 inhabitants. The department of Health and Care has approx. 7,000 employees.
